Shivani Sazawal (SazColor) - Colorist

I'm Shivani, a colorist and filmmaker based in India. I began grading in 2018 while making my own short films. Most were shot in natural light and uncontrolled environments, with all the unpredictability that comes with documentary and independent filmmaking. Every project taught me something new about finding balance, consistency, and emotion in the footage. Along the way, I became fascinated by how color could shape the emotional world of a story.

Since then, I've collaborated remotely with filmmakers in the US, Switzerland, and India on a variety of documentary and narrative film projects.

Some of these involved matching footage captured on everything from iPhones to cinema cameras. Others began with conversations about visual references and stylised looks that gradually evolved into a look that was unique to the film.

Throughout, my approach has remained the same: I want the grade to feel like it belongs, bringing clarity, cohesion, and emotional depth to the story without calling attention to itself.

Many of the films I work on are deeply personal projects that have taken years to make. The most rewarding part of my work is seeing a director reconnect with their film when they watch the finished grade for the first time and realize it's exactly how they envisioned it.
